Every birthday deserves a party!
This year, Valley Community Services’ 50th birthday came on the heels of our country’s 250th. Every year, the VCS picnic is one of our most important, with swathes of staff swarming to one picnic pavilion in Belle Vernon. With an attendance of over 300, this year’s picnic was the biggest birthday bash we could have hoped for!
As always, we owe the success of our picnic to our various varieties of volunteers from all corners of our agency. From the delightful desserts to the magnificent maintenance might that knit it all together, we couldn’t put this event alone.

A good birthday party is nothing without good music, and CJ the DJ once again provided!
If you saw this masked man walking around, don’t let his scary appearance fool you! Underneath the mask is a familiar face! CJ is back with a whole host of new equipment, making it enjoyable for everyone.
Some never seem to make it off of the dance floor, with some serenading the crowd.

Just because the decor and view are red, white and blue, it doesn’t mean the treats can’t be too.
Themed America 250 cupcakes were graciously made for the picnic by none other than our own Susie O.! With the theme, the white was a Red Devils food with cream cheese filling and icing and star sprinkles. Blue was a lemon cupcake with blueberry filling and blueberry icing. The Red was a milk chocolate cupcake with strawberry filling and strawberry icing.
What was your favorite flavor of cupcakes? Let us know in the comments below.
Thanks to Kimberly from HealthDirect, we once again, for the third year running, had refreshing sno cones on a sunny day.

A new activity arrived for 2026: customizable tote bags! Many Magnificent Masterpieces were conceived by those taking part in our tote table.
For those who aren’t Picasso, great prizes were up for grabs during various other activities.
Baskets and Bingo featured to end our day of fun-filled activities. With almost 30 baskets to pick from, there was a little something for everyone.
Notable basket favorites included a full aloe plant, a cooler with snacks, and mystery baskets that added some intrigue.

Our Maintenance and McCarthy Center staff worked in top gear to set up everything needed for our picnic this year. It was a birthday party we won’t soon forget!
However you plan to celebrate our nation’s 250th, we certainly hope you enjoyed our 50th!
